about
“Sound” at its core is a prayer, a mantra-inviting healing and harmony. “After living 30 years outside of myself, finding refuge in external anchors- I’ve finally started to trust myself and unlock my true self. This is an on-going journey and I feel this song is a step on that path. I thought to myself after all the love songs I’ve written about others in my life - it was time to write a love song to myself; But written in a way where the message can resonate with the listener.”
There’s still a nod to the people that have supported her at her lowest points, specifically her fiance Dustin in the lyric: “...in the back of my heart, in the depths of your mind. You were always there, you stole the show. No matter the distance, we share the same road.” Written at the height of the pandemic when Simien felt the most unsure about her career in music and her purpose in life. This song helped to “reignite the artistic flame and get excited about making music again.” Dustin Reynolds & Landon Moore were pivotal contributors who co-wrote the song with Simien. Since the making of SOUND, Simien has written an album that she is in the process of developing.
lyrics
Heal the wilderness in my heart
Clear my mind and balance my parts
What came before don't matter, don't matter, don't matter no more
I went ahead and turned around the sound
I went ahead and turned around the sound
Ease keeps comin, comin, comin with time
Harmony and a willing mind
The here and now is all I know, all I know, all I know how
I went ahead and turned around the sound
I went ahead and turned around the sound
We're never really ever left behind
In the back of my heart in the depths of your mind
You were always there, You stole the show
No matter the distance, We share the same road
I turned around the sound
Heal the wilderness in my heart
Clear my mind and balance my parts
What came before don't matter, don't matter, don't matter no more

Marcella Simien is a bona fide artist in her own right with musical wisdom beyond her years. As legendary record producer
and owner of Royal Studios Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell puts it, “Marcella is one of the most soulful artists I've heard since the glory days of Memphis soul music. Her sound and stage presence are constant reminders that soul music is still alive and well."...more
